An Adventurous Yosemite Elopement from Sunrise at Glacier Point to Sunset at Taft Point

An Adventurous Yosemite Elopement from Sunrise at Glacier Point to Sunset at Taft Point

If you’re dreaming of an Adventurous Yosemite Elopement, Taylor and Nick’s day is such a good example of how much you can experience when you give yourself the time to explore! After being together for over 11 years, these two decided to celebrate their marriage with a full day in Yosemite National Park. From sunrise at Glacier Point to a picnic in the meadows and sunset at Taft Point, their day had a little bit of everything. And one of my favorite things about it? We planned an 8-hour split-day timeline that allowed us to take advantage of the best lighting without feeling like we had to rush from one location to the next.

Starting Their Yosemite Elopement at Glacier Point

We started the morning at Glacier Point, and I seriously don’t think there’s a better way to begin an elopement day in Yosemite! The early morning light coming through the trees, the views of Half Dome, and the quiet moments Taylor and Nick shared together made the early wake-up completely worth it. They exchanged private vows surrounded by some of Yosemite’s most incredible scenery, and we spent the morning exploring different spots around Glacier Point for portraits.

One thing that made their timeline so much easier was staying just minutes outside the park. If you’re planning to visit Glacier Point for sunrise, I highly recommend finding accommodations nearby. Glacier Point Road takes some time to drive, especially when you’re heading up before sunrise, so having a shorter commute to the park makes a difference. It also worked perfectly for Taylor and Nick since we planned to head back into the mountains for sunset later that evening!

A Meadow Picnic and the Benefits of a Split-Day Elopement Timeline

After spending the morning at Glacier Point, we made our way down into Yosemite Valley to explore the meadows and spend some time by the river. One of my favorite parts of their day was the little picnic they planned, complete with a cake and their favorite tequila! They got to sit together, enjoy their cake, and take in the scenery without having to worry about what was coming next. Their elopement happened right between summer and fall, so the waterfalls weren’t flowing, but Yosemite still had so much to offer. The golden meadows, beautiful mountain views, and warmer tones throughout the valley were gorgeous!

This is exactly why I love recommending split-day timelines for Yosemite elopements. Taylor and Nick booked 8 hours of coverage, but instead of using those hours consecutively, we split them between the morning and evening. This gave them time to take a break during the harshest part of the day and allowed us to photograph them when the lighting was at its best. It’s such a great option if you want to explore multiple locations, include activities you actually enjoy, and have a more relaxed experience throughout your day.

Ending Their Adventurous Yosemite Elopement with Sunset at Taft Point

We met back up in the evening and headed to Taft Point for sunset, which was the perfect way to end their adventure! The light was so beautiful as the sun started dropping behind the mountains, and we had plenty of time to explore the granite overlooks and take portraits with those incredible views of Yosemite Valley. Taylor’s lace wedding dress looked amazing against the rocky landscape, and I loved how the warm evening light brought everything together. We even got some beautiful pink and orange tones in the sky as the sun went down.

If you’re considering an Adventurous Yosemite Elopement, I really can’t recommend planning around sunrise and sunset enough. Both Glacier Point and Taft Point offer incredible views, but the experience and lighting can be completely different depending on the time of day. Taylor and Nick got to enjoy both, along with a relaxed afternoon in the valley, all within their 8 hours of photography coverage. Their day is such a good reminder that you don’t have to choose between having an adventure and having time to slow down and enjoy your wedding day.
