There is just something so magical about a misty forest morning followed by a sunset on the coast, and Meredith & Blake’s Jedediah Smith Redwoods elopement felt like stepping straight into another world. These two stayed in a cozy cabin near Crescent City and fully embraced every part of the experience, the early morning wake-up call, the fog hanging in the trees, the muddy trails, the wildlife sounds echoing through the forest, and the salty ocean air waiting for us later that evening. It was one of those days where nothing needed to be rushed. Everything unfolded slowly and intentionally, and honestly… It was incredible to witness!

A Misty Morning for Their Jedediah Smith Redwoods Elopement
We started the day bright and early at their cabin while Meredith got ready with Megan from BlackFernBeautyCo, who absolutely crushed hair and makeup. One of the coolest parts? She came back later in the day for a touch-up before the coast portion of the elopement, which was honestly so perfect after a damp, misty morning wandering through the redwoods. Little details like that make such a huge difference during split timeline elopements! After getting ready, I drove Meredith while Blake followed behind, and we headed toward Simpson Reed Trail in Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park. The forest that morning felt quiet and alive all at once. Everything was dripping from the mist, the ferns looked impossibly green, and every little bird call or rustle in the trees made Meredith and Blake stop to look around.
These two love wildlife, and I swear the entire day became this beautiful reminder to slow down and actually notice what’s around you. I set up their first look beside this gigantic fallen tree with exposed roots twisting up into the forest floor, and it honestly looked straight out of a fantasy movie. The second Blake turned around, both of them instantly forgot about the weather. They were just completely locked into each other. We wandered deeper into the trails afterward, hiking through massive trees and thick fern meadows until we found the perfect quiet spot for their vows.

Private Vows in the Fern Meadows
One of my favorite parts of this whole day was watching Meredith & Blake exchange private vows surrounded by towering redwoods and endless ferns. No distractions. No audience. Just the sound of the forest around them. The fog hanging between the trees somehow made everything feel even more intimate. After reading their vows, I led them through a ring exchange before we spent the rest of the morning exploring the trails together. They fully embraced the adventure side of the day, climbing over massive roots, hiking through muddy sections, and stopping every five seconds because we found another insane patch of forest light or dramatic fallen tree.
The photos at the giant uprooted tree ended up feeling so cinematic and moody in the best way possible. The scale of the redwoods around them was unreal. We wrapped up the morning portion of their Jedediah Smith Redwoods elopement at Stout Grove, which is honestly one of the dreamiest spots in the entire park. The soft light filtering through the trees, the wooden bridge, the layers of ferns everywhere… it almost doesn’t feel real when you’re standing there.

Southern Oregon Coast Picnic & Sunset Beach Adventure
After taking a long afternoon break to rest and recharge, we met back up along the Southern Oregon Coastline for the second half of their day. And somehow the vibes completely shifted in the best way. We went from moody, misty forest energy to sunny coastal cliffs and crashing waves. Meredith & Blake shared the sweetest little picnic overlooking the ocean with cake, champagne, and one of the most beautiful views imaginable. Their cake topper said “Our Greatest Adventure,” which honestly could not have fit the day more perfectly. They sat together soaking everything in while waves rolled below them, and it felt like one of those moments where time slows down for a second.
From there, we headed down to a secluded beach surrounded by giant sea stacks and cliffs glowing in the evening light. The beach was quiet, peaceful, and completely golden from the sunset. Meredith hiked across the rocks barefoot while Blake helped carry her dress through the sand and tide pools, and the entire evening felt so carefree and full of joy. We ended the night with lanterns, slow dances on the beach, conversations about their future together, and the softest cotton candy skies turning into stars overhead. Honestly, it was the kind of elopement day that reminds me why I love documenting these experiences so much. It wasn’t about rushing from one thing to the next. It was about fully experiencing the day together!

Tips for Couples Planning a Jedediah Smith Redwoods Elopement
If you’re dreaming about planning your own Jedediah Smith Redwoods elopement, here are a few things I’d absolutely recommend after photographing days like this one:
- Plan for changing weather. The redwoods are often misty, damp, or foggy, and honestly, that’s part of the magic. Embrace it instead of fighting it!
- Consider a split timeline. Having a break in the middle of the day gives you time to rest, warm up, eat, and experience multiple locations without feeling rushed.
- Stay nearby in Crescent City. It makes early morning starts so much easier and gives you easy access to both the forest and coastline.
- Wear shoes you can actually hike in. Even easy trails can get muddy or slippery!
- Build extra time into your day. Wildlife sightings, trail exploring, and spontaneous stops are part of what makes these experiences feel meaningful.
- Pair the redwoods with the Southern Oregon Coast. The contrast between dark moody forests and bright ocean cliffs is unreal for photos and for the overall experience.
- Don’t be afraid of dirt or adventure. Some of the best locations require climbing over logs, muddy shoes, and a little flexibility.
