A Hendy Woods & Mendocino Elopement with Family and a Sunset Beach Adventure

A Hendy Woods & Mendocino Elopement with Family and a Sunset Beach Adventure

When Sarah and Braden started planning their elopement, they knew they wanted more than just a single day. They wanted an experience they could share with the people they love most. Their intimate Hendy Woods & Mendocino Elopement brought together everything that mattered to them: family, adventure, incredible scenery, and plenty of time actually to enjoy it all. Instead of spending their budget on a traditional venue for one evening, they spent a full week exploring the California coast with their families, creating memories that extended far beyond their wedding day. The result was one of those wedding days that felt relaxed from start to finish. There was no rushing between venues, no packed timeline, and no pressure. Just meaningful moments with family, a private adventure through the redwoods, sunset vows overlooking the ocean, and a celebration that felt completely true to who they are.

A Hendy Woods & Mendocino Elopement That Included Family Every Step of the Way

The day began at their Mendocino Airbnb overlooking the coastline, where Sarah and Braden got ready separately with their families. The house itself was the perfect home base for the week, with sweeping ocean views and plenty of space for everyone to gather together. One of my favorite moments from the morning was their first look on the deck. With the coastline stretching out behind them and their families nearby, it felt incredibly personal and relaxed. There was no audience, no pressure, and no schedule dictating how long they could soak in the moment.

From there, everyone headed to Hendy Woods State Park for the ceremony. One of the reasons this location worked so well was that it offered a dramatic setting without requiring a difficult hike. Their guests, including families with young children, could easily access the ceremony site while still experiencing the unforgettable feeling of standing among towering redwoods. Even better, we practically had the entire area to ourselves, which made the ceremony feel even more intimate.

A Private Hendy Woods & Mendocino Elopement Through the Redwoods and Coastline

After the ceremony, Sarah and Braden took some time away from their guests for a private adventure through the redwoods. This is one of my favorite parts of an elopement day because it gives couples space to simply be together before rejoining family and friends. The forest felt peaceful and quiet, with soft light filtering through the trees and massive redwood trunks creating the most incredible backdrop. Looking through these photos, it’s easy to see why they chose this location. Every direction offered something beautiful without needing to travel far.

From there, we made our way to the coastline for the next chapter of their day. The ocean was absolutely showing off. The water was a stunning shade of blue, wildlife was everywhere, and we spotted birds and seals throughout the afternoon. Thanks to a little help from my walkie-talkies, we were able to spread out and create some dramatic images that really showcased the scale of the cliffs and coastline. Sarah and Braden were completely in their element. You could tell they had carefully chosen locations that reflected the type of experience they wanted, and seeing how excited they were made the adventure even more fun!

Why This Hendy Woods & Mendocino Elopement Was About More Than Just One Day

One of the things I loved most about Sarah and Braden’s wedding was that it wasn’t centered around a single event, it was centered around an entire experience. After their coastal adventure, they headed back to their Airbnb to rest before meeting everyone for lunch at The Wharf. Later that evening, they made their way down to the beach below the house for private vows at sunset. The light was incredible, the waves were crashing along the shoreline, and after reading their vows, they did exactly what they wanted to do, run into the water together.

As the sun disappeared, they rejoined their family for cake cutting, speeches, and lantern photos overlooking the ocean. What made this day so special wasn’t just the wedding itself, but the entire week surrounding it. Sarah and Braden spent their time horseback riding, kayaking, exploring local state parks, trying great restaurants, and making memories with family. Instead of pouring everything into a single day, they created a wedding week experience that everyone will remember for years to come.
