There are so many ways to experience an intimate sunrise Yosemite elopement. But Becka and Clayton’s day is one I’ll be thinking about for a long time. Instead of trying to fit everything into one location, they created a timeline that gave them the best of both worlds. A quiet sunrise adventure together, followed by a meaningful ceremony with family later that morning. From watching the first light hit Half Dome at Glacier Point to celebrating with their favorite people at Sentinel Beach. Every part of their day felt intentional, relaxed, and completely true to them.

One of my favorite things about this timeline is that it never felt rushed. We had time to soak in the incredible views, wander through Yosemite together. And let each part of the day unfold naturally. It was the perfect reminder that your elopement doesn’t have to be just one moment, it can be an entire experience.

Why an Intimate Sunrise Yosemite Elopement Is Worth the Early Wake-Up

We met at Glacier Point before sunrise while the park was still quiet. Becka and Clayton had come up with the sweetest plan to keep their first look a surprise. Clayton drove them to the overlook while Becka rode in the backseat with a sheet hung between them so they couldn’t accidentally catch a glimpse of each other. Their two closest friends came along to witness the day, and everyone was smiling before the sun had even come up.

As the first light spilled over Half Dome. I led them to a secluded spot for their first look before we wandered to their private vow location. Those early morning hours are one of my favorite times to photograph Yosemite. The soft light, cooler temperatures, and peaceful atmosphere make it feel like you have the park all to yourselves. We explored a few of my favorite overlooks, took our time with portraits, and simply enjoyed being present before heading back down into the valley.

From Sentinel Beach to Sunset: Making the Most of a Full Yosemite Wedding Day

After our sunrise adventure, we met Becka and Clayton’s family at Sentinel Beach for their ceremony. Even though it was Father’s Day in the middle of summer, one of Yosemite’s busiest times, we had the entire ceremony location to ourselves. It’s one of the biggest reasons I love recommending early morning ceremonies whenever possible. Not only is the light beautiful, but you’ll often avoid the crowds that arrive later in the day. Becka walked down the aisle with her dad while their family gathered beside the Merced River. They exchanged vows during an intimate hand-tie ceremony before celebrating with family photos and portraits along the beach. 

From there, everyone headed to The Ahwahnee for a brunch reception. While Becka and Clayton enjoyed the rest of the afternoon with family. They stayed at Yosemite Valley Lodge, which made everything incredibly convenient for their guests since it’s centrally located within the park. They also reserved their rooms about a year in advance. Which is something I always recommend for anyone planning a Yosemite wedding or elopement! That evening, we met back up for one last adventure at Lower Yosemite Falls before ending the day at Taft Point. Their close friends joined us again, and the entire evening felt more like hanging out than taking photos. We laughed, swapped stories, watched the golden light pour across the granite cliffs. And finished the day with some of the most incredible sunset views Yosemite has to offer. It was the perfect ending to a day that never felt rushed and made space for both adventure and connection.
